Narayana Vaidyer’s Ayurveda Chikitsalayam was established by late Narayana Vaidyer in 1930. It is now in its fifth generation of existence. Narayana Vaidyer hails from an ayurvedic family.His father Sri. Chathu Vaidyer was an eminent Ayurvedic Physician at that time.He used to treat patients by visiting their homes also he was the consulting physician for Kollengodu Raja.Chathu Vaidyer sent Narayana Vaidyer to Arya Vaidyasala Kottakkal for his ayurvedic education.He Acquired the degree of Arya Vaidyan From Kottakkalwith honors.After his education Narayana Vaidyer felt the need for establishing a Vaidya Sala to treat patients as well as manufacturing medicines in Scientific way.The institution was set up with the help of eminent personalities of that time especially from ‘’Kenath’’Family from the kollengode dynasty.Narayana Vaidyer was a Scholar in the field of ayurveda as well as Jyothisha (astrology) soon his fame and glory spread to various parts of Tamilnadu and Kerala.He was the royal Physician to Kollengode,Palakkad and Cochin dynasty .He was a great visionary also.He rendered help in establishing Educational Institutions in Chitilanchery.He passed away at the age of 61.
After his death of Narayana Vaidyer the institution was run by his Second son Dr.Unnikrishnan who was a student of Arya VaidyaSala,Kottakkal and his brother’s son Dr.A.N.Sethumadhavan Who had his degree of L.I.M from Madras(Chennai).During this period the IP section was expanded..
After Dr.Unnikrishnan’s Death,the institution was headed by his 4th son Dr.A.N.Kunhikannan who had his Ayurvedic Degree of D.A.M from Govt.AyurvedaCollege,Trivandrum Dr.A.N.Kunhikannan along with Dr.A.N.Sethumadhavan spread the glory of the institution far and wide.They made the institution in the current form.Since their death the institution is its fourth generation of existence.Dr.Ramadas and his wife Dr.Radha Ramadas as chief physicians.
